Résonance is Maison Louis Jadot's first wine project outside of Burgundy, France, since their founding in 1859. This Pinot Noir is their debut release from the beautiful, tree-lined Résonance Vineyard, in the Yamhill-Carlton wine region, as well as their other three vintages in the Willamette Valley discussed below.
For the first time, the 2023 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley from Résonance is made entirely from estate fruit (I called Resonance and asked - see more details below). Matured for 17 months in 30% new French oak, it has pure scents of pomegranate, burnt orange peel, pepper, mossy bark and mushrooms. The medium-bodied palate is elegantly styled with layers of earth-laced fruit and seamless oak integration. It’s framed by velvety tannins and bright acidity and has a long, layered finish.
My Notes:
When I spoke with John at Resonance, he explained that previously they had been making the wine from some fruit they purchased from partners in the Willamette Valley.
But as of 2023, they own all the vineyards that this wine is coming from:
Yamhill-Carlton's Resonance Vyd planted in 1981
Yamhill-Carlton's Jolis Monts Vyd planted in 2017
marine sedimentary silt loam to clay adding some fresh young fruit characteristics
Eola Amity Hills Koosah Vyd planted in 2016
volcanic basalt and sedimentary marine adding some floral notes
Dundee Hills Decouverte Vyd planted in 1996
jory soil adding minerality and bright red fruit
