BBQ Ribs and Remus Repeal Reserve Vertical Tasting
BBQ Ribs and Remus Repeal Reserve Vertical Tasting
Thursday Feb 26th, 6pm-7:30pm
I love doing these vertical tastings. We get to taste the changes through the years of these delicious bourbons. Remus has always been quality whiskey and in the past I have preferred these to their higher end Gatsby Reserve. Check out the four whiskeys we will be trying below with more details coming soon.
For this event you’ll get a 3/4oz pour of each of the whiskeys and the meal listed below.
The Meal
All homemade: Half rack of Smoked Deutsch Family Farm Ribs with a bourbon BBQ sauce, cheesy grits, coleslaw, and Boston baked beans
Remus Repeal Reserve VI
Accolades: Master Medal at 2022 American Whiskey Masters, Double Platinum at 2023 Ascot Awards
Crafted with a medley of five rare bourbon reserves from 2008-2014, Series VI continues our high-quality tradition with aromas of nutmeg and saddle leather, followed by notes of candied fruit, fig jam, oak and barrel char, mint and slight caramel, nutmeg, toffee and honey. The finish features sweet candied fruit, leather and a lingering sweetness and rye spice.

Remus Repeal Reserve Series VII features an aroma of caramelized pecans, candied cherry and maple syrup, leading to flavors of rich caramel, maple and candied raisin, candied cherry, barrel char and rich cinnamon. The finish brings intense cinnamon and peppermint spice, with lingering notes of vanilla, caramel and oak.
Remus Repeal Reserve VIII
Accolades: Platinum at 2025 Ascot Awards, Double Gold at 2025 San Fran World Spirits Competition, Gold at Consumer’s Choice Award, Gold at 2025 SIP Awards
The oldest Remus Repeal Reserve ever at 10-17 years, Master Distiller Ian Stirsman has also made a few updates for Series VIII.
“We did a couple things different for Remus Repeal Reserve Series VIII,” Stirsman noted. “First, once we finalized the blend, we blind-tasted it at different proofs, with the 101 proof being the favorite. We also returned to non-chill filtration to increase the mouthfeel, and went with a higher proportion of the high-rye recipe bourbon than in years’ past.”
This culminates in an exceptionally complex, high-age bourbon that offers aromas of cherry, candied pecans and hints of leather, along with exquisite flavors of maple syrup, cherry and fig. The finish lingers with vanilla, oak and notes of baking spice.
Remus Repeal Reserve IX
Accolades not yet reported
The latest edition of the award-winning Remus Repeal Reserve collection. Crafted with a medley of four bourbons aged since 2006 – 2015.
Featuring aromas of seasoned oak, subtle tobacco and leather, and sweet ripe cherry, a prominent warm oak flavor flows into notes of cherry, roasted coffee, and hints of smoky spice. The finish begins with lingering oak and all spice, which fade into coffee, cherry, and lastly, tobacco.
